Raje Wilson: Spring Village mass shooting victim laid to rest
In the aftermath of the horrifying scenes at the Best Dressed Chicken community playfield, Wilson was among three persons dead.
Sasha-Gay Eubanks and her uncle Jerome ‘Coolie’ Squire, who investigators say was the main target of the killers, were also confirmed dead.
Wilson and Squire were subsequently labeled by the police as members of the criminal underworld.
But needless to say that the community turnout to pay final respect to a resident popularly called ‘Curry’ was pretty good.
All seats were taken inside the Thetford Park Chapel on Sunday as family and friends bid farewell to the 26-year-old Spring Village resident who comes from a very large family.
In fact the show of support to such a defining subplot behind the life story of a young man, who has fallen dramatically from grace in the eyes of his community, was not to condemn but rather to be viewed as a life lesson.
Delivering the eulogy, Wilson’s aunt, Angella Cleary spoke of a nephew who had the potential of being a good upstanding citizen but sadly went down a path there was no escaping from.
People’s National Party Councillor Candidate for the Church Pen Division Natalie Ho, said: “I’m a strong believer in the right to bear arms, however, the guns are reaching the hands of cold hearted murderers.
“Jamaica is bleeding, not in slow motion, but rapidly. If we continue down this pathway, soon or later, Jamaica will be ground zero.”
The body of Raje Wilson was interred at Thetford Cemetery.
