Rovman Powell leaves Tallawahs with ‘heavy heart’
Barbadian leg-spin bowler Hayden Walsh Jr, who has been with the Royals since 2019, will replace Powell in the Tallawahs squad.
Following the announcement by the CPL organisers, Powell took to social media to express is eternal gratitude to his home franchise after leading them to their third CPL T20 title last year.
“It is with a heavy heart that my time with the Tallawahs has come to an end,” the West Indies T20 International captain, wrote on Instagram.
“I have made lifelong friends and memories I will never forget. Not least winning two CPL titles for my home franchise, one of those as captain, which I will always cherish.
“I’m looking forward to joining the Royals and beginning a new chapter of my CPL career.
“I would like to thank all the players and coaches who have been part of my Tallawahs journey these last few years.
“Most of all, I want to thank the Jamaican fans, for your support.
“Always remember, we likkle but we Tallawah.”
Powell, 29, is regarded as one of the game’s biggest global stars and destructive batsmen.
The move by the Old Harbour native to the Royals is without doubt a major boost to the franchise, champions in 2014 and 2019 and runners-up to the Tallawahs last season.
The Republic Bank CPL draft show will be broadcast in late June 2023 with the tournament set to get underway on 16 August 2023.
