Old Harbour police recover gun, ammo after fatal shooting

Investigators at the scene of the fatal shooting on the Salt Gully road connecting Lloyd's Pen and Old Harbour Bay.

A .45 pistol and 120 9mm rounds of ammunition have been recovered following a fatal shooting in the Salt Gully area of bordering Old Harbour Bay and Lloyd’s Pen.

The incident occurred along the Salt Gully main road about 1:15 pm today the police confirmed with Old Harbour News, while an unidentified man was fatally shot in what investigators are reporting to be a shootout.

A large team of police officers are presently on location with scene of crime detectives processing the area.

Motorists are advised to use alternate routes.

According to preliminary investigation, a police team was on patrol in the area when they signaled a Toyota motor car to stop.

It is alleged that the driver opened gunfire at the cops. The officers returned fire hitting the driver and a female passenger who was also in the vehicle.

Both were then transported to the hospital where the driver, whose identity remains unknown at this time, was pronounced dead and the woman admitted under police guard.

The weapon used by the deceased has been concealed as well as the ammunition seized during a search of the vehicle.

Investigation continues.
