An alleged gunman was fatally shot by police this morning during an operation in the Ascot Drive community of Old Harbour.

He has been identified as 26-year-old Daniel Farquharson otherwise called ‘Fry Eye’ of a Succaba Gardens address.

Information reaching Old Harbour News is that Farquharson, who has been frequently featured as major person of interests amongst the most wanted violence producers in the St Catherine South

Police Division, was fatally shot during what the police say was a shootout.

It is said that two illegal guns were recovered.

But details on exactly what transpired are not available at the moment as detectives from the Independent Commission (INDECOM) and scenes of crime unit are on the scene.

Farquharson, it is alleged, has been labeled as the main protagonist in relation to several crimes, including murders and shootings, committed in the Old Harbour area despite being on the police radar for several years now.

But witnesses refused to come forward and give a formal statement out of fear, investigators said.

The alleged gangster, who is in his early 20s, has been previously arrested and charged with shooting and wounding with intent but the case collapsed because of insufficient evidence, an officer told Old Harbour News.

There will be muted celebrations among residents in the Burke Road and Ascot Drive communities, the police argued as they branded Farquharson as dangerous and one who was largely feared.

In a subsequent update the police are reporting that one Glock pistol containing five 9mm round and a .22 revolver loaded with five rounds were recovered. When the shooting subsided Farquharson was found lying in his blood clutching the Glock, while the revolver was discovered under a mattress during a search of the premises.

A 21-year-old woman was also injured during the alleged exchange of gunfire between the police and Farquharson. She is being question by the police but has not been charged though, this remains a possibility Old Harbour News has been advised.

The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 am.
