Hundreds of residents will once again have the chance to experience the annual Old Harbour Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony.
One of the foremost community events historically, the Old Harbour Christmas Tree Lighting ceremony dates back many decades with his emergence going back further to the pre-emancipation era.
As customary, the event will be held inside the tiny park situated in the town square where hundreds of residents will gather to witness the official lighting of the Christmas tree.
A coned-shaped metal architecture approximately 20 feet high, the structure will be decorated with lots of colourful lights, trinkets and paraphernalia all carefully layout to mirror the image of a Christmas tree.
A ceremony to mark the occasion precludes the grand illumination of this giant makeshift tree with speakers offering best wishes throughout the Yuletide season through prayers, songs or prose.
Here in Old Harbour, the Christmas tree lighting ceremony is traditionally spearheaded by the Councillor of the Old Harbour Central Division.
Steve Graham, the people’s elected representative in the current political post, informed Old Harbour News that the event will be held on December 17, starting 7:00 pm.
This year’s occasion is expected to have several noted figures in attendance from the judiciary, law enforcement, politics, the church, commerce, media and civil society.
