Fox5 Atlanta is reporting that a shooting incident had occurred about 3:00 pm today at a home in Lithonia, Georgia where a woman was hospitalized in critical condition after she was shot in the head.

Details have been otherwise sketchy so far with the authorities from the Dekalb County Police Department yet to release the identities of both victim and suspect.

But in the last few hours, however, news have emerged here in Old Harbour that the Lithonia shooting victim is a native of Old Harbour and that she has succumbed to her injuries.

Checks with multiple sources confirmed the deceased to be 23-year-old Shanae Smith, a past student of Old Harbour High School, who was studying in the US up to the time she was killed.

Sources say Smith had informed her boyfriend that she’s ending the relationship after which he shot her.

It is unclear how long the couple had been intimately involved, but Old Harbour News has been reliably informed that the alleged suspect is also from the Old Harbour community as well.

The police say they are searching for him.

A small crowd has since gathered at Smith’s family home on West Street, Old Harbour, Jamaica as they all mourn the loss of a wonderful soul full of life and with a bright future ahead of her.

On Smith’s Facebook page heartfelt messages have been tagged to her timeline as relatives and friends come to grips with the sad news.

“We were rob of your life today, Shanae R. Smith you're the epitome of what a daughter, niece aunt, cousin and friend should be. I don't know how we will go on without you. If only R.I.P. meant return if possible... Pain in every language,” her aunt Julien Archer wrote.

“This can’t be real all now mi a say a prank… you were such a good soul,” a friend posted with a teary-eye emoji.

Pearleta Holness says “No I can’t believe” the news she had just heard before Rachel Thomas expressed “she did not deserve this at all”.

Indeed, Smith death is undeservedly, untimely, and unnecessary. And as the news swirl rapidly throughout Old Harbour, more questions are likely to emerge as an entire community grapple with this heartbreaking news.
