Bartons to Ginger Ridge main road remain impassable

According to Stephen Shaw, the manager of communication and customer services at the National Works Agency (NWA), these corridors – the Bog Walk Gorge (from Spanish Town to Ewarton) and the roadway from Barton to Ginger Ridge, particularly at Connors – are impassable due to multiple obstacles such as massive boulders, fallen trees, and blocked drains.

In the case of the Bog Walk Gorge, Shaw explained that a large boulder is obstructing one section of the roadway, and it will need to be broken up for removal. Additionally, fallen trees and blocked drains are contributing to significant flooding, and the area where the boulders were dislodged could be unstable, requiring further assessment before it can be safely reopened.

On the Barton to Ginger Ridge road, landslides have caused blockages in multiple locations, with additional obstructions from fallen trees and rocks.

Shaw mentioned that while the NWA is working to clear the roads as quickly as possible, no specific timeline has been provided yet for when either route will be passable for vehicles.

In the meantime, motorists are advised to seek alternative routes to reach their destinations, though it is important to note that no alternative routes are available to the community of Connors.

The NWA is prioritizing the clearing of these roads to restore access, especially to facilitate the restoration of electricity to areas without power, a task that is further complicated by the blocked roads.
