The announcement was made today by Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Romario Rankin, who leads the police subdivision overseeing the entire St. Catherine South Western constituency.

This latest measure follows a similar 48-hour curfew imposed on Tuesday after security officials decided to discontinue the State of Emergency (SOE) previously in place for St. Catherine South, which includes Old Harbour.

Speaking with Old Harbour News, ASP Rankin confirmed that the police have maintained the same curfew hours that were enforced under the SOE. Residents must adhere to the 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM curfew on both Friday and Saturday.

The SOE, part of a broader strategy to curb crime, was implemented across multiple police divisions in response to a surge in violent incidents, particularly murders. Since its enforcement, the murder rate has declined compared to the corresponding period in 2024.

Four murders have been recorded in the Old Harbour area since the start of the year.

While this progress is encouraging, law enforcement remains vigilant, adjusting security measures as needed with careful consideration.
