Prime Minister Andrew Holness says ensuring that community roads are constructed in accordance with best practices is a major criterion under the state-funded SPARK programme.

The Prime Minister was addressing residents and journalists in the community of Nightingale Grove on Friday.

Much of Mr Holness’ day was spent in St Catherine South Western, the constituency of former works minister Everald Warmington whom he had recently fired following controversial remarks made public.

Before visiting Nightingale Grove, the Prime Minister had delivered two housing units to residents in Bamboo Ridge and Brethren Town in the Old Harbour North Division under his HOPE programme.

Holness was also taken to the closed Spring Village bridge which has been earmarked for a $130 million reconstruction during this fiscal year. Joining the Prime Minister at this juncture was Robert Levy, chairman of the Jamaica Broilers Group which has committed $50 million to assist in the building of a new modern bridge which serves as the main artery into the community of Spring Village, home of the Best Dressed Chicken factory.

Standing at the corner of Cedar Avenue and Cedar Drive, Holness says Nightingale Grove, which was created around 1975, is one of the many communities across the island that will receive sparkling new roads.

The roads in the flood-prone community of approximately 270 houses were last rehabilitated more than 30 years ago.
