Rojaun Kelly wants to become a doctor after 93.7% PEP score

Rojaun, 12, logged a PEP placement score of 328 or 93.7%, to rank third overall at Old Harbour Primary.

Speaking to Old Harbour News, Edward Kelly said he’s “very satisfied” with son’s accomplishment though the outcome was expected.

“He focuses mostly on his book,” a proud Mr Kelly said. “From a long time he always maintains good average, so I expected this from day one.”

“I was very elated, very happy, so proud of him. Although we were aiming for Campion, but Ardenne is an excellent school as well,” added Rojaun’s mother Ketanya Edwards, who is a market research officer. “It was a long journey working with him… and after I saw what he has accomplished I was very happy to know that the journey has ended at the primary level and we are very excited about what’s to come in high school.”

From a very early each Rojaun, who is described as very quiet and one who loves reading books, showed signs of being a little genius. Of particular interest to Rojaun is anything related to medicine, his parents told us from their Marlie Acres home. Their second of three children spends hours after hours reading science journals and watching similar clips on YouTube, the elder Kelly revealed.
Rojaun would later tell us “I want to become a doctor”. The almost inaudible reaction of his parents seemingly to say ‘we told you so’.

The couple said they have invested heavily into the children’s education throughout the years. And Rojaun’s success is making the reward even sweeter.

“I learn that from my father that family comes first, children come first… because at the end of the day they are the ones that you will look up to, they are the future. All my commitment is for children, I spend most of my resources on my children,” said Kelly, a construction engineer working for the government. 

Edwards said she considers herself blessed to have such a caring and committed partner.

She said: “I am very lucky, I am very fortunate and I am very grateful for everything Mr Kelly has been doing for us. I have to give credit where it’s due. He loves his children and he plays a vital role in their lives.”

There has been a constant flurry of commendations from the community since the PEP results went public.

But the family is aware that tougher challenges are to come.

“He will be entering a new arena, where performance-wise he will have to be at his best, so there’s no time for idling,” Kelly said. 

Lately Rojaun says he has been “researching about Ardenne” and is not perturb about their high academic standards. He is confident he will excel, while identifying his parents as his biggest motivation, especially his mother. 

He will forever be grateful to the teachers at Old Harbour Primary, he said, but has promised to keep visiting whenever possible.
