Gunfire erupts in Spanish Town

The country’s old capital of Spanish Town is presently under heavy gunfire between warring gangs in the area, which has resulted in the death of at least one man, the police are reporting.

The public is therefore being urged to avoid or approach the area with extreme caution at this time as the town centre is now the subject of a crime scene.

In a video being circulating on whatsapp the injured man was seen lying face down moving slightly while shots could be heard firing in the background. He was later confirmed dead.

While information is not clear at this time, the shooting is believed to be a reprisal to yesterday's midday assassination of Dela Vega resident in the town square. The deceased has been identified as 28-year-old Kevon Lewis, a budding comedian who goes by the aliases ‘Kev’ or Bread.

A joint police/military team has been deployed to the area to restore normalcy.
