Anglin, who spent three years at the Old Harbour CIB, was promoted from the rank of inspector to deputy superintendent (DSP). He was the only inspector promoted on the announced list.

A 22-year veteran of the force who spent much of his formative years working as a scene of crime detective, he has made a mark for himself as a very meticulous investigator with a consistently favourable success rate in relative terms.

But the humble crime fighter credits his colleagues – past and present - and time working in the Old Harbour sub-division, as the main reasons for this promotion to his new rank.

Anglin now heads the Clarendon CIB following his reassignment in August 2018, and says he’s looking forward to the new task at hand.

“Trust me, I invite any challenge,” he told Old Harbour News in an interview. “Old Harbour prepared me to take on the role of divisional detective inspector for Clarendon, which further prepared me to take on the mantle of crime officer for the division of Clarendon.

“It’s a greater level of responsibility, greater resources to manage, greater amount of investigation, complex investigation, but it’s a challenge I welcome with open arms.”

An unassuming crime fighter, DSP Anglin says his promotion did not come as surprise but believes it was more down to his all-inclusive style of leadership.

“It can’t be about me alone. I have to find people to pull along with me. If I am to move on and you cannot find a replacement within my cadre that I lead, then a part of my stewardship would have failed.

“It’s not like I’m looking forward for myself, but I’m actually looking to pull people up as well,” he said.

“It is not about Jermaine Anglin in terms of investigation, it’s about team Clarendon CIB.

“Sometimes you have to show people their worth. You have to remind people of their value. Value not in the sense of their technical value but values in the sense of their investigative skills and how they can contribute to the aim. There is also the part where confidentiality has to be very high. I have to be smart about investigation.”

Pointing to the high level of distrust in the force, even amongst officer, he notes it’s imperative to lead by example.

“I have to show them that I am confidential, I am trustworthy and I have an open door policy. I am not there to just direct, I am there to learn, I am there to grow and I am there to push and pull,” he said.

Last year Clarendon recorded 133 murders. Of that number the Clarendon CIB head noted that “we managed to clear up by way of arrest or other means 73 of those 133 murders, equating to about 56, 57 percent”.
