The homicide was committed about 2:30 am today in a section of the south west St Catherine community known as Rock Stone.

Dead is 32-year-old farmer Mark Harrdon, otherwise called ‘Pete’.

According to the police, Harrdon, who lives in a small board house with his girlfriend and son, was awoken by strange sounds outside. The farmer went outside to check upon which he was shot several times by armed men. He died on the spot after being shot in the head and hand.

The gunmen fled the area leaving Harrdon’s girlfriend and son unharmed.

Investigators have theorized so far that Harrdon’s death may possibly be connected to a recent feud involving one of his siblings and other men within the area.

The police are following several leads into the matter and could make an early breakthrough in the coming days.

Meantime, several persons from the community have been detained by the police following a snap raid carried out a few hours after the deadly shooting.

Residents describe the current situation on the ground as calm but tense, while lamenting that Harrdon’s death is most undeserved, as he was never party to whatever disagreement his brother had with the other persons.

Investigation continues.
