The funeral service for Mears, 50, is slated to commence at 9:00 am at the St Dorothy’s Anglican Church. Internment is at the church cemetery where his parents were also buried.

Mears, who was the People’s National Party (PNP) chairman of the St Catherine South West constituency at the time of his untimely and shocking passing, died on March 29 in hospital, days after suffering a major cardiac arrest.

He was a renowned and highly popular public figure in the community, who did a lot of work particularly through sport before venturing into politics in 2014.

The Island Farm resident was the PNP’s representative in the 2016 General Elections, but suffered a heavy defeat at the hands of incumbent and long-serving Member of Parliament Everald Warmington of the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP).

His death has sent shockwaves throughout the community, with many, including JLP supporters, giving glowing tributes at a vigil held in his honour.

Mears is survived by wife Dahlia and two sons, Rudyard Jr and Michael.
