INDECOM probes police shooting in Bannister

The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) has launched a probe into the circumstances that caused a police officer to shoot a man in Bannister district, Old Harbour last night.

According to information received by Old Harbour News a few minutes before 8:00 pm a police constable was at a family gathering when a man allegedly entered the premises and disconnected the power from the mini sound system.

A scuffle ensued between the man and the officer, it is said.

The man, according to eyewitnesses, went across the road and retrieved a stone before taking aim at the cop. At this time officer pulled his firearm and fired two shots at the man, one of which hit him in the leg.

The injured man was then taken to the hospital where he was treated and released.

Further investigation with relatives of the injured man revealed that he has been experiencing mental issues.

Investigation continues.
