Old Harbour Road crash victims identified
When contacted a police officer from the St Catherine North traffic department revealed the deceased men as 40-year-old Nicholas Creary, otherwise called ‘Nick’ of Federal Avenue, Sydenham and James ‘Limbo’ Morgan, said to be in his 30s, of a Gutters, Old Harbour address.
According to police information collated from the main eyewitness, about 9:20 pm Morgan and Creary were both travelling in a Nissan motor car heading towards Old Harbour.
Upon reaching McCook Pen between the primary school and the Jamaica Broilers Group head office, the blue Nissan driven by Morgan swerved to the right after a Honda motor car, coming from the opposite direction veered into the right lane in an attempt to avoid a bad surface area.
In doing so the Nissan slammed into a Toyota Land Cruiser that was travelling behind the Honda, killing Morgan and Creary on the spot.
The female driver of the Toyota SUV received medical treatment for minor cuts and bruises and was subsequently released from hospital.
The officer who visited the scene told Old Harbour News that while the Honda vehicle caused the accident it is obvious that the Nissan was travelling at an extremely high speed.
Images seen by Old Harbour News showed a mangled Nissan beyond recognition, while the bodies, when being removed from the wreckage, showed clear signs of multiple broken bones.
The area where the crashed occurred has been a major cause for concern for motorists who traverse the thoroughfare frequently, many referring to it as a death trap or an accident in waiting.
Whilst the cause of the fatal crash is ultimately as a result of failing to obey the road code, many will argue that poor state of that particular area is a factor and will point fingers at the National Works Agency (NWA).
For years now the area is in need of a comprehensive repair, but the NWA continues to resort to the less effective method of periodic patch work.
Wednesday’s fatal crash will be a sharp reminder for the state agency of the urgent need to make this section of the roadway safe for driving.
Meanwhile, the death of Morgan has sent shockwaves throughout Gutters, as his kind and respectful demeanor caused many to admire him.
He grew up in humble beginnings and had a passion for cars from his time as a little boy.
By the time he was 16 ‘Limbo’ was a full fledge mechanic, building a passion many say he was born to do.
The sentiments have been similar for Creary who is also a mechanic and at one point operated a small mechanic and auto repair shop at Gutters named High Grade.
