Weather experts report that Invest 97L, a potential tropical disturbance, has a 90% chance of developing into Tropical Storm Rafael in the coming days.

With warm ocean temperatures creating conducive conditions for storm formation, meteorologists are monitoring its unpredictable path, as major models show varied projections.

Regardless of its development, increased rainfall is expected across Jamaica, Cuba, Haiti, and the Cayman Islands throughout the week.

Jamaica could face flooding, with winds potentially reaching 65 mph.

The Meteorological Service of Jamaica has warned of cloudy conditions and widespread showers and thunderstorms from late Sunday through Wednesday, along with strong gusty winds during this period.

Residents are advised to prepare for adverse weather conditions, which has the potential to cause major flooding across the country.

Meantime, the Jamaica Public Service (JPS) is proactively addressing the anticipated adverse weather conditions by activating its 24-hour Adverse Weather Incident Command Operations at 4:00 PM today.

In a press release the company stated it is prepared to respond to potential power outages across most parishes due to expected showers, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

President & CEO Hugh Grant emphasized that JPS has mobilized teams and contractors to ensure a safe and timely restoration of power. However, he cautioned that restoration efforts may be delayed if conditions are unsafe, with potential outages lasting hours, days, or even weeks depending on the severity of the impact.
