Telegram CEO arrested for ‘not censoring you’ – Andrew Tate
Tate was reacting to news that broke early Sunday morning across Europe that Durov was detained by French security authorities shortly after his private jet landed in the country.
Russian-born Durov, who is also a citizen of France, Saint Kitts and Nevis and the UAE, has been detained on allegations that his company is complicit in allowing criminals widespread use of its platform unchecked.
The mega-rich and highly influential Tate, who is also facing criminal charges in Hungary where he’s presently under house arrest, also believes that this will be a defining moment for world.
In a note to his millions of followers, the former kick-boxer wrote: “The Telegram CEO Pavel Durov has been arrested in France.
“His crime? Not censoring you.
“He failed to comply with the French government's demands to "moderate harmful content".
“What most of you do not FULLY understand… Is that this is THE YEAR.
“2024 is THE YEAR that changes the world forever.
“This is the year where everything matters.
“The attacks on Free Speech and any serious influence on this world is only just beginning.
“Assassination attempt on Trump?
“Not even the tip of the iceberg of how far they will go.
“I warned you all when this year first started.
“And I am warning you again.
“Prepare accordingly for what's coming, because this year defines the future of humanity.
“The world could be going to a very dark place.
“One where I cannot even email you.
“One where no one who isn't authorized by the government can.”
Since his ascent to global notoriety, Tate has moved from being of the “most Googled man on the planet” to one of the most hated by governments in the West.
Durov’s arrested has sparked outrage around the world with the Russian government and tech tycoon Elon Musk calling for his immediate release.
In April during an interview with American journalist Tucker Carlson, Durov,39, claims that US law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, tried to convince Telegram employees to create a ‘backdoor’ mechanism into the messenger service provider.
Telegram has close to one billion active users.
It remains unclear if Durov has been charged and what are those charges. But several media outlets in France are reporting that the authorities are probing allegations into fraud, drug trafficking and organized crime.
In a statement posted on its platform the company said: “Telegram abides by EU laws, including the Digital Services Act — its moderation is within industry standards and constantly improving.
“Telegram's CEO Pavel Durov has nothing to hide and travels frequently in Europe. It is absurd to claim that a platform or its owner are responsible for abuse of that platform. Almost a billion users globally use Telegram as means of communication and as a source of vital information. We’re awaiting a prompt resolution of this situation.”
