Genesis 22:5 said: “And Abraham said unto his young men, Abide ye here with the ass; and I and the lad will go yonder and worship, and come again to you.” With all the cases of worship in scripture, why was this one chosen? Well it could be because this was the first mention of the word "Worship" - although not the first sighting of the practice.

To worship God is to simple acknowledge Him as Who He is. Simply put, to obey His demands on our lives, because He is God. Abraham was given a hard task. As he went to it, he displayed some important aspects of true worship.

• Abide here. Firstly, it's a call away from those who may not understand, so that we can focus on the One Who deserves my best worship.

• The lad and I. Secondly, it's taking other worshippers with you. God wants all to eventually come.

• Will go yonder and worship. True worship will take us to a yonder realm. Since God is high and lifted up above the heavens, we have some travelling to do. Abraham was going yonder to obey God and leave the details to the Lord.

• And come again to you. After worship, God will send us back to those afar off. Hopefully next time we can take more of them with us to worship.

Worship is surrendering the best we have on earth, to show that our devotion is primarily to the One we have in heaven. Read Gen.22:1-14 and ask myself, is there anything that is stopping me from worship? Put it on the altar.
