DAILY DEVOTION: Wrestling with God | Jacob 4
Have you ever heard this one?: If it feels like a duck, smells like a duck, brings food like a duck, it could be Jacob disguised as someone who he was not, trying to steal something that, whether or not he knew it, God had in store for him. What a scheme between mother and son to overthrow father and brother. Even through Isaac's interrogation, Jacob maintained his air of deception. Because he depended on his limited senses, Isaac was deceived into pouring out the entire bowl of blessing on Jacob.
Have you ever been a victim of deception like poor Jacob. Oh don't be sorry for Isaac. He ended up blessing the one that God wanted to be blessed. But imagine Jacob's ordeal to have to deceive his father into getting what God said that he would get. He was the real loser here.
As we go along, please keep in mind that what goes around has a way of coming around to bite us. If we deceive people, we are hurting ourselves. Also keep in mind that the eternal and divine Referee and Scorekeeper may plan to use you greatly in the future, but before that, He will have to do some remodelling of your wrestling style.
Score: Isaac, who got to blessed the right son, 1; Jacob, who lied to get what God would have given him, 0.
