Boy from Old Harbour Bay heads to KC after 100% score in PEP
The Old Harbour Bay native continues to be the recipient of huge plaudits after scoring 100% in the Ability Task in the Primary Exit Profile national standardized examination for primary school leavers.
The 12-year-old Old Harbour Bay Primary graduate joins a special club of high achievers to attained perfect score in the revised test, which had to be amended because of the coronavirus pandemic.
A brilliant academic student since his formative years at kindergarten, Alexander’s performance was unsurprising, his mom June Marsden said.
“He has been doing well from basic school right through to primary school. The sky is the limit,” she told Old Harbour News in an interview.
Getting a perfect score was the real icing on the cake, though, which secured him a berth at the famed Kingston College. At the same time his performance ensured he will follow in the footsteps of his father Garnet Hibbert, who also attended the ‘Purples’ of North Street. Marsden, a mother of two, reserved special credit for her common-law-husband, who has been the bedrock of the family.
Despite his full time job, Marsden said Mr Hibbert creates time to assist with homework and is actively involved in their lives.
As for Alexander, who many simple refer to as ‘Alex’, getting a perfect score wasn’t on his mind.
“I didn’t expect to get 100 percent,” said the boy who is born and raised in a section of the Old Harbour Bay community known as Thompson Pen Lane. “I was expecting to get over 90 percent out of a hundred.”
From a much tender age, Alex has shown deep interest in “strange objects,” his mother said. It’s no wonder he loves mathematics and the sciences, though he’s still undecided on what he aspires to be in the future.
“I’m not too sure,” he said when asked of his ultimate dream.
Like most children Alex is a fan of video games but still finds time watching the news. However, he gets peeved by irresponsible adults who throw garbage into the gullies and drains.
Of her son Marsden says “I expect him to continue to do well as I know that great things will become of him if he continues on the right road”.
Marsden informed Old Harbour News that her daughter recently graduated from university with a bachelor’s degree in social work, which she believes is added motivation for Alex in the years ahead.
