The US-registered charity was making its second voyage to Jamaica, following its debut tour last year visiting Marlie Mount Primary and Infant School.

“The health fair, we had a good showing at Old Harbour Primary, we saw about 54 persons that came in to get their blood pressure, blood sugar and BMI checked,” said Dr Thomas, a native of Colbeck, Old Harbour.

Formed in 2022, the TagHeart Foundation has set its mandate on making Jamaican teachers their priority in the homeland of its founders.

Last year, the charity body offered free health screening to more than 50 persons, primarily educators, at Dr Thomas’ alma mater.

Like they did previously, the Lions Club of Old Harbour came on board as a partner and conducted vision screening.

“We had a wonderful time working together as we did last year,” Dr Thomas said. “Principal [George] Goode and his team were extremely receptive and very helpful in the success of our second health fair.”

She added: “This year we extended our team to include two nursing students from UWI. Everybody had a good time taking care of our teachers on the ground.”

The teaching staff was full of gratitude for the heartfelt gesture, says Principal Goode.

He said, speaking at a brief closing ceremony afterwards, that “Indeed, the family here at Old Harbour Primary School, we are elated because of the donation from TagHeart Foundation,” while acknowledging the contribution of the Lions Club of Old Harbour.

Dr Thomas, who also handed over a few school back-packs and First Aid kits to the school, remarked: “We appreciate the opportunity to be here to serve and to give back. it is out greatest pleasure and honour to serve your staff and team and we recognize the efforts and the effect and the impact that teachers have on our future.”
