Donovia Mitchell’s 96% PEP mark reward for mom’s investment
She obtained an average of 96.2% which earned her a spot at the Wolmer's Girls High School.
"The exam was good,” she told Old Harbour News. “Honestly I took it as a normal test I received, so I wasn't nervous. I made up my mind that I wanted something in the future so I work hard for it.
“Normally I would go on YouTube and research topics that I didn't understand.
“It feels really great to know that I got such a good grade and I am proud."
Despite the pandemic Donovia still manage to perform at her best. Matriculating to her ‘dream school’ is a dream come true for the Old Harbour Primary graduate. And her success thus far just goes to show that with hard work and determination anything is achievable even in a pandemic.
By and large her success was aided by her teachers who went above and beyond.
"My experience at the Old Harbour Primary School was very good, the teachers were very nice and I enjoy my time with them especially my form teachers. I thank them a lot for pushing me. One of my form teachers had an illness that prevented her from coming to class and she still did her best to help. I thank her so much for that."
As her journey at primary school comes to an end, Donovia is looking forward to her new challenge.
"The Wolmer's Girls High School is a wonderful school and I have a friend that attends the school. She tells me a lot of great things about it so I find it interesting, plus I always wanted to attend an all-girls school," she said.
Behind Donovia’s impressive accomplishment there is a loving and supportive parent that supports her every step of the way.
Her mother Canice Mitchell said: "I am extremely excited and delighted for her,” before adding: "I chose the Wolmer's Girls High School for her because growing up certain educational opportunities I didn't have, so I wanted her as an only child to experience those first-hand knowledge that I didn't get the opportunity to, so I chose Wolmer's Girls that would best provide this for her.
"My expectations for her are that she will always do her best and always put God first."
Mitchell is one proud parent in her moment of glory. And rightly so; having invested everything to Donovia’s benefit.
Donovia will now take her next big step in a new chapter in her life. One that will test her resolve in every way imaginable.
But she has proved what she’s capable of because her success so far didn't happen overnight.
