Jamaicans in the eastern belt of the island could start experiencing unstable weather conditions as early as Tuesday night going into Wednesday morning with increasing rainfall intensifying throughout the day.

The condition is likely to cause major flooding in particularly in low-lying areas.

“It is going to bring us some potential of flooding… it is an elongated system that stretches all the way down to basically South America,” says Brian Shields in his latest weather report.

In its latest bulletin issues 5:00 am today the country’s met service said a “Trough is expected to remain throughout today. On Wednesday, a strong Tropical Wave is expected to move across Jamaica, bringing unstable weather conditions to the island Wednesday and Thursday”.

The Tropical Wave it noted has a “medium chance” of developing further over the next seven days.

The development is likely to have severe impact on the reopening of schools across the country.

This week marks the first of the new school year with majority of institutions scheduled to reopen its doors.

But a rethink is most certainly a possibility now even education officials and in some cases parents will make that determination based on a risk assessment at the appointed time.
